LAST TO DIE is a metal band from Fresno, CA. The
band is made up of former members of Speakers for
the Dead (Magna Carta Records), GRYP (W Records -
Walden Media, Metro One Records), September
Children, Spyne, More Than Without, and Delirium.
LAST TO DIE is hitting the unsigned DIY approach
hard. The band will have a full length album completed
by August 2009, radio servicing in September 2009,
and West Coast dates in fall 2009, and national tour
winter 2009.
A new local band from Fresno, hitting the Metal scene
and already getting booked for gigs around the area. If
you are ever in the area of Fresno, go check out the
guys. After hearing a few of their songs, pure
adrenaline is pumping through the vocal chords of
frontman Curtis! Their big influences are Pantera and
Killswitch Engage. Even though I have not seen them
Live, I'm sure they bring a good crowd of dedicated
Metalheads ready to have a good time! Last to Die's
new cd is just on the horizon and they already got
some CD party shows coming out. "Watch Out" is one
of their singles that starts out kicking major ass with
some powerful ballads and killer vocals. There's a nice
mix of clean vocals in there that really accent the
songs vibe and originality, making the songs very
melodic and outstanding. Rob on bass really makes
the songs sound really dark and exciting. His skill
definitely shows! Last to die has three songs to
preview on their myspace. If I were to pick a favorite
song it would have to be "Ember" for its superb ending
and bass licks which really makes this track stand
out!
One piece of criticism is that the vocals can get a little
crunchy and very harsh. Also some of the guitar solos
are a little harsh, but all in all ok. Poor audio editing
can be a factor. Some of the vocals sound like he's in
a cave (like from a distance) which I don't like. But Live
this should not be a factor. Overall these songs are
brutal and melodic at the same time, which you
wouldn't expect at first. I cant wait to get a CD from
these guys to make a more extensive review, other
that good job fellas.
